Hello, my name is Dena Freedman-Muchnick and I am the Owner and Director of Lactation Spot, a private Lactation Consulting Practice based in Cooper City, Florida. I also founded Speech Language Spot and Myofunctional Spot, additional branches of my practice that treat children and adults with feeding, speech and Oromyofunctional Disorders (OMDs). I created Tiny Myo, a play-based Early Intervention Program for children ages 1-5+ that targets Speech, Feeding & Oral Motor skills and encourages Myofunctional Development.
I earned a Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from Nova Southeastern University in 2000. Prior to that, I earned a Dual Bachelor's Degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology from the University of Florida in 1997. I hold and maintain a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Language Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
I have worked as a Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist in the areas of speech, language, voice, feeding & swallowing for over 24+ years. I have practiced in various clinical settings including Miami Children's Hospital, Outpatient Clinics, Private Practice and I have experience with various populations and medical complexities. However, my true passion has always been in the areas of feeding & swallowing, lactation, tongue tie and oromyofunctional disorders. I am a member of several professional organizations and attend annual conferences and forums to stay current with the evolving research within my specialty areas. I am dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and seek continuous professional growth in my areas of clinical specialty.
I utilize my clinical experience on a consultative basis to provide Functional Oral Assessments in helping to identify and diagnose oral restrictions (tongue ties) in infants to help make breastfeeding successful for mom and baby. I collaborate and work closely with some of the most respected release providers in identifying and releasing oral restrictions. I successfully and exclusively breastfed my own babies (now 16 & 18 - don't blink!) for over 2+ years. However, despite my clinical knowledge of infant feeding and lactation, breastfeeding was FAR from an easy journey.
I live with my amazing husband, two teenage "babies" and four doodle fur babies. In my free time, I enjoy visiting local farmer's markets, practicing yoga, cooking organic gluten/dairy free meals, harmonizing to broadway music with my husband and daughter, thrift shopping, traveling and chasing the most beautiful sunsets.
It is my own personal breastfeeding journey paired with 24+ years of clinical experience and a passion for helping to facilitate a positive breastfeeding experience for all families...that has ultimately led me to this position in my career. I am grateful to be doing what I absolutely love. I consider it a privilege to help each and every family who invites me along on their breastfeeding journey. ♥️
